  • St. Augustine (Feast)

Friday Aug 28, 2020 All day

Saint Augustine, Bishop, and Lawgiver of the Mercedarian Order

Special Masses at 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM

Saint Augustine was born at Tagaste, Africa in 354.  He was unsettled and restlessly searched for the truth until he was converted to the Faith in Milan and baptized by Saint Ambrose in 387.  Returning to his homeland, he embraced an ascetic life and subsequently was elected bishop of Hippo.  For thirty-four years he guided his flock, instructing them with sermons and many writings.  He fought bravely against the errors of his time and explained the Faith carefully and cogently through his writings.  He died in 430.  Pope Gregory IX, on the occasion of confirming the Order of Mercy on January 17, 1235, assigned it the Rule of Saint Augustine.  For this reason, Saint Augustine is venerated by the Order of Mercy in a special way.

  • St. Raymond Nonnatus (Feast)

Monday Aug 31, 2020 All day

    Saint Raymond Nonnatus, Priest

Special Masses at 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM

According to reliable tradition, Raymond was born in Portell, Catalone toward the end of the twelfth century.  He is called Nonnatus (not born) because he was taken from his mother's womb after her death.  He entered the Order of Our Lady of Mercy and gave illustrous example of charity toward the Christian captives.  During one of his redemptions, he was kept as hostage and his lips were padlocked to impede him from preaching the faith.  He had a deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to our Lady.  On his way to Rome, he died in Cardona about the year 1240.
